Coast-to-Coast: VJ Edgecombe shines in Vegas debut; Twolves, Thunder, Raptors roll to 3-0

A slow start didn’t hold back VJ Edgecombe in his Las Vegas debut, as the no. 3 pick scored all 15 of his points in the second half to power the Philadelphia 76ers to their first win.

Meanwhile, the OKC Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Toronto Raptors kept their winnng streaks intact at 3-0.


EDGECOMBE OVERCOMES SLOW START; THUNDER, TWOLVES, RAPTORS GO 3-0 IN SUMMER LEAGUE PLAY

  • Philadelphia 76ers (1-2) def. Washington Wizards (1-2), 74-58: No. 3 pick VJ Edgecombe filled up the stat sheet in his Summer League debut, guiding the Sixers to their first win at expense of the Wizards.

Edgecombe produced 15 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals in his first game in Las Vegas after missing the first two games.

  • OKC Thunder (3-0) def. Orlando Magic (0-3), 92-75: Ajay Mitchell lit up Las Vegas with 27 points, pacing the Thunder’s 17-point victory over the Magic and improved to 3-0 in Summer League play.

Branden Carlson added 23 points for OKC, which outscored Orlando 75-60 in the final three quarters to seal the win.

  • Minnesota Timberwolves (3-0) def. Detroit Pistons (2-1), 89-73: Terrence Shannon Jr. and Leonard Miller joined forces to lift the Timberwolves past the Pistons, staying undefeated in Summer League play.

Shannon finished with 24 points, Miller added 20, and Rob Dillingham contributed 16.

  • Toronto Raptors (3-0) def. Denver Nuggets (0-3), 101-97: The Raptors became the latest team to join the 3-0 squads, holding off the Nuggets in a tightly-contested affair. 

  • Portland Trail Blazers (2-1) def. New Orleans Pelicans (0-3), 93-87: Rayan Rupert unloaded 24 points as the Trail Blazers kept the Pelicans winless in Summer League play with a tight win.

D.J. Carton added 20 markers off the bench, while Caleb Love put up an all-round game of 17 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists.

  • Golden State Warriors (2-1) def. Memphis Grizzlies (1-2), 96-84: The Warriors overcame a rough start to topple the Grizzlies for back-to-back wins.

Jackson Rowe led four Golden State double-digit scorers with 14 points as Will Richard and Jaden Shackelford added 12 markers each.

 

  • New York Knicks (1-2) def. Brooklyn Nets (0-3), 97-93: MarJon Beauchamp and Tyler Kolek fired in 25 points each, propelling the Knicks to their first Summer League win against the winless Nets.
