Coast-to-Coast: Storm complete comeback vs Lynx; birthday girl Copper shines for Mercury

A big comeback couldn’t have come at a better time for the Seattle Storm.

Skylar Diggins-Smith and the visiting Storm erased a 21-point deficit to stun the league-leading Minnesota Lynx, on the same night the Phoenix Mercury and defending champions New York Liberty protected home court.


STORM PULL OFF EPIC ROAD COMEBACK; BIRTHDAY GIRL KAHLEAH COPPER SHINES FOR MERCURY 

  • Seattle Storm (21-19) def. Minnesota Lynx (31-7), 93-79: Skylar Diggins and the Storm matched the second-largest comeback in franchise history, erasing a 21-point deficit to stun the league-leading Lynx and becoming only the second team this season to beat Minnesota at home.

Diggins scored 19 of her game-high 23 points after halftime, helping the Storm move 2.5 games ahead of the LA Sparks in the race for the final playoff spot.

  • Phoenix Mercury (24-14) def. Chicago Sky (9-29), 83-79: Kahleah Copper celebrated her 31st birthday with 28 points as the Mercury picked up their third straight win at the Sky’s expense.

It was Copper’s fifth 20-point outing of the season, helping Phoenix pull even with the Atlanta Dream for the no. 3 spot in the standings.

  • New York Liberty (24-15) def. Washington Mystics (16-23), 89-63: Even without three starters, the defending champions Liberty rolled past the Mystics for their second straight victory.

Isabelle Harrison scored a season-high 16 points to lead New York, which played without Sabrina Ionescu (toe), Jonquel Jones (illness) and Natasha Cloud (nose). Four others scored in double digits to round out the balanced attack.
