Coast-to-Coast: James Harden, Jalen Green drop 40-piece; Hawks deal Cavs first home loss

The upward trajectory continues for the Houston Rockets, who overtook the Golden State Warriors for the second spot in the Western Conference.

A loaded 14-game offering saw a couple of 40-point outbursts from the Los Angeles Clippers’ James Harden and Houston Rockets’ Jalen Green, while Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks put an end to the Cleveland Cavaliers’ 10-0 start at home.  


HAWKS STUN CAVS IN CLEVELAND; LAKERS, NUGGETS, KINGS, HEAT BOUNCE BACK 

  • Atlanta Hawks (8-11) def. Cleveland Cavaliers (17-2), 135-124: Trae Young put on a passing clinic as the Hawks pulled off a stunning road win against the NBA-best Cavaliers. 

 

  • Hall-of-Fame dimer badge activated: Young displayed his playmaking prowess with a career-high 22 assists on top of 20 points, helping Atlanta deal Cleveland just its second loss of the season.  

 

  • LA Lakers (11-9) def. San Antonio Spurs (10-9), 119-101: After a lackluster defeat in Phoenix yesterday, the Lakers responded with a convincing beating of Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs. 

 

  • Still dominant in Year 22: LeBron James dropped his sixth triple-double of the season after finishing with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists, while Anthony Davis contributed with a 19-14-7 statline for LA, who are 2-0 this season over San Antonio.
  • No joke Thursdays: Jokic put up a casual 30-point, 10-rebound, and seven-assist outing on a 13-of-19 shooting for the Nuggets, while Jamal Murray added 22 points and Michael Porter Jr. poured 19 markers. 
  • Sacramento Kings (9-10) def. Minnesota Timberwolves (4-14), 115-104: Domantas Sabonis, De'Aaron Fox, and Malik Monk combined for 80 points, pushing the Kings past the Timberwolves who suffered a fourth straight loss. 

 

  • Miami Heat (8-8) def. Charlotte Hornets (6-12), 98-94: Tyler Herro led the way for Heat with a team-high 27 points in overcoming LaMelo Ball’s 32-point night and the Hornets in Charlotte. 

 


HARDEN, GREEN DROP 40-PIECE AS THUNDER KEEP WEST TOP SPOT 

  • LA Clippers (12-8) def. Washington Wizards (2-15), 121-96: A vintage James Harden showed up in a 25-point Clippers demolition of the Wizards in D.C. 

  • The Beard cooked in the nation’s capital: Harden exploded for a season-high 43 points on top of seven threes and seven assists in a turn-back-the-clock performance for the Clippers’ 12th win of the season. 

 

  • Houston Rockets (14-6) def. Philadelphia 76ers (3-14), 122-115: Jalen Green and the Rockets surged all the way to the no. 2 spot in the West after outlasting the Sixers in overtime in Philly. 

 

  • Young, wild, and free: Green was simply unstoppable on the offensive side behind a 41-point night, as the high-flying guard outdueled Tyrese Maxey, who put up a 39 points, 10 assists, and five steals in a losing effort. 

 

  • OKC Thunder (13-4) def. Golden State Warriors (12-5), 105-101: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the West-leading Thunder overcome the early exit of Jalen Williams to hold off the Warriors side that was missing star guard Stephen Curry.

HOME DOMINATION CONTINUES FOR MAGIC; GRIZZLIES, PACERS, AND MAVS KEEP WINNING

  • Orlando Magic (13-7) def. Chicago Bulls (8-12), 133-119: Paced by Jalen Suggs’ career-high 31 points, the Magic rolled to a ninth straight home win after dismissing the Bulls. 

 

  • Indiana Pacers (9-10) def. Portland Trail Blazers (7-12), 121-114: Tyrese Haliburton’s 28-point, 10-assist double-double propelled the Pacers to a season-high three-game winning streak at expense of the Trail Blazers.

  • Dallas Mavericks (11-8) def. New York Knicks (10-8), 129-114: No Luka Doncic and Klay Thompson, no problem as the Mavericks took down the visiting New York Knicks.

  • Memphis Grizzlies (12-7) def. Detroit Pistons (8-12), 131-111: Marcus Smart fired a season-high 25 points and the Ja Morant-less Grizzlies easily handled the Pistons. 

 

  • Brooklyn Nets (9-10) def. Phoenix Suns (10-8), 127-117: On the back of Tyrese Martin career highs in points (30) and threes made (8), the Nets rallied to beat the Suns for their fourth win in the last five games.

  • Toronto Raptors (5-14) def. New Orleans Pelicans (4-15), 119-93: Ochai Agbaji and Jamison Battle accounted for 12 of the Raptors 21 threes in a ruthless 26-point beatdown of the lowly Pelicans.
