According to reports, Jonathan Kuminga’s refusal to sign the latest contract offer is due to the Warriors’ insistence on a team option for the second year and their refusal to include a no-trade clause.

Neither Jonathan Kuminga nor the Golden State Warriors is giving an inch in the ongoing contract negotiations.

Kuminga has reportedly rejected the latest two-year, $45 million contract extension offered by the Warriors, according to senior NBA insiders Anthony Slater and Shams Charania.

The inclusion of a team option for the second year of the deal, along with the Warriors' refusal to honor a no-trade clause, has become the central point of contention for the 22-year-old.

The stalemate between Kuminga and the Warriors continues more than a month into this year’s free agency, with both sides holding firm.

Nevertheless, Golden State holds all the leverage in the situation as a restricted free agent, any deal to move Kuminga out of the Bay Area would require a sign-and-trade.

Slater and Charania also reported that the Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings have shown interest in the youngster, but the Warriors have yet to be swayed by any trade package presented.

Since being selected seventh overall in the 2021 draft, Kuminga's role with the team has fluctuated, as he has been in and out of head coach Steve Kerr's rotation.

His situation became even more complicated when Golden State acquired six-time All-Star Jimmy Butler at last season’s trade deadline.

Although his minutes have decreased, Kuminga remained productive and averaged 15.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in 47 appearances.

When superstar Stephen Curry went down with a strained left hamstring in Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinal series against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Kuminga stepped up.

He scored 26 points or more in Games 2-5, averaging 20.8 points on 54.3% shooting in the series, as the Warriors failed to make it past the second round of the postseason for the second time in the last three years.

Reports also indicate that Kuminga has until October 1 to accept the Warriors' offer while negotiations continue.
