Victor Wembanyama soaked in his first experience with the French national team, playing two games in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 European Qualifiers.
After a massive victory over Lithuania, France had another dominating performance, this time a 92-56 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Helping France secure its ticket to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, which will be held in Manila next year, was Wembanyama.
The top NBA prospect scored a team-high 19 points, including three 3s, while adding four rebounds, two steals, and two blocks to his statline.
“Today I think he had an average game, very clearly. But for him, as he is an exceptional player, even when he is average, he is still quite good. But I don’t think it’s pressure-related at all,” Coach Vincent Collet said after the game.
A lot of basketball fans are looking forward to seeing Wembanyama in the NBA but the 18-year-old is also keen on suiting up for Les Bleus in the FIBA World Cup 2023 next year.
“Beyond basketball, it was an exceptional group. We couldn’t have asked for better. We were able to hit hard from the start," said Wembanyama. "From a sporting point of view, it was a dream. The NBA will be a whole new world, but I want to be at the World Cup in 2023."
