Good news for the San Antonio Spurs fans, as superstar Victor Wembanyama has been medically cleared from the deep vein thrombosis on his right shoulder that he sustained last February.

French sports writer Maxime Aubin confirmed the latest development regarding the 2023 Rookie of the Year in a tweet for France’s L'Equipe.

"I'm officially cleared to return," said. "It just happened — I got the green light from the Spurs' medical staff just a few hours ago (last Friday). Phew, I'll finally be able to play a bit of basketball again."

Wembanyama played just 46 games last season after being diagnosed with the same injury that forced multi-time All-Star Damian Lillard to sit out the final Milwaukee Bucks’ 14 regular season games.

He averaged 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, a league-leading 3.8 blocks and 1.1 steals during his sophomore year.

Despite the Spurs missing the playoffs for the sixth year in a row, the future looks certainly bright for San Antonio under new head coach Mitch Johnson.

With Wembanyama as the centerpiece, the team continued to build around the 7'3" Frenchman including pairing him with former All-Star guard De’Aaron Fox, reigning Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle, and newly-drafted rookie Dylan Harper.

Wembanyama spent the offseason in China where he went on a 10-day retreat at the famed Shaolin Temple in central China, a place known more for kung fu and Zen Buddhism.

A first-time All-Star last season, the French phenom was in attendance watching the Spurs’ ongoing Summer League campaign in Las Vegas. San Antonio, which is off to a 2-0 start, is currently playing the Utah Jazz.
