MVP candidate Joel Embiid returns after a 10-game absence and immediately helps the Sixers earn a win over the Timberwolves.

Scoreboard

Mavericks 109, Wizards 87
Knicks 125, Pistons 81
Heat 115, Cavaliers 101
Sixers 122, Timberwolves 113
Pacers 139, Spurs 133
Jazz 137, Magic 91
Trail Blazers 133, Thunder 85
Bucks 129, Kings 128

What went down

The Utah Jazz did that thing again where they, as a complete unit, pulled off another historic feat. Against a depleted Orlando Magic, Utah lit Vivint Arena on fire with 18 3s in the first half, beating the record of 17 previously held by the 2018 Golden State Warriors.

Donovan Mitchell came out firing and played as if he had something better to do in the second half. By halftime, Mitchell had 22 points on six 3s and the Jazz were up 78-40. He didn’t have to do much after that.

Utah went on to win by 46 for their ninth straight and franchise record-extending 22nd straight at home.

Meanwhile, the Portland Trail Blazers wanted to get in on a blowout action of their own with a  48-point dismantling of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Eight Blazers ended up in double figures in the blowout game, which was OKC’s most lopsided loss in franchise history.

Big-time baller

Joel Embiid always shows up when it’s against Karl-Anthony Towns. Back like he never left, Embiid returned after missing 10 games to drop 24 points and grab eight rebounds versus the Minnesota Timberwolves. Cue the “M-V-P” chants.

KAT, conversely, always shows up when it’s against Embiid, and there were times when things got chippy, as you would expect from a Godzilla vs. Kong-type of matchup. Towns scored 39 points and hauled 14 boards in a losing effort.

What he said

The trailer for Space Jam: A New Legacy starring LeBron James is out and has enough cameos and spectacle to unpack for days.

Did you see that?

Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers got the W, but KAT took home a poster:
