What went down

In their first game of the season on TNT, the Sacramento Kings showed why they’re the most fun team in the league today. The Golden-1 Center had early 2000s Arco Arena vibes as the Kings outlasted the New York Knicks.

Sacramento looked dominant to start this game, establishing a 21-point lead late in the first half. But the Knicks made adjustments and came out strong to start the second half. New York made a run and eventually tied the game at 96 early in the fourth quarter.

That’s when the game boiled down to De’Aaron Fox bursts of speed and Josh Hart apparating for offensive boards.

The Kings was able to grind out the win thanks to their dynamic duo. Domantas Sabonis dropped a triple-double of 24 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists while Fox scored 15 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter. Fox leads the league in clutch points by a wide margin and he showed why today.

Hart grabbed a career-high 15 boards, eight of which came off the offensive glass. RJ Barret and Julius led the Knicks in scoring with 25 and 23 points, respectively.

The Kings are now tied in second in the West with the Memphis Grizzlies at 39-26. The Knicks dropped just their second in eight post-All-Star break games. They sit in fifth in the East with a 39-28 record.

Big-time baller

Tyrese Haliburton had his way with the Houston Rockets defense, hanging a career-high 19 assists on them.

The first-time All-Star also scored 12 of his 29 points in the fourth quarter and overtime to lead the Pacers to the win. Over the last three games, Haliburton is averaging 32.6 points and 16.3 assists.

What he said

Today’s Memphis Grizzlies-Golden State Warriors game was built up like a wrestling match. Dillon Brooks took shots at the Warriors and Draymond Green in an interview last week. Green responded through his podcast yesterday.

Both sides were ready to raise some hell today.

It got really chippy in the game, but neither Green nor Brooks got hit with techs. Watching them try to bait each other into technical fouls was theatre.

It probably didn’t help that the Warriors were getting blown out by a Grizzlies team that has been ravaged by injuries and off-court drama. The sparks did fly after the game.

It’s impossible to have neutral feelings for either side of this feud. This is the maximum chaos that only an old-fashioned rivalry could bring.

Did you see that?

In case you missed it, Fred VanVleet decided to drop a pipe bomb on officiating yesterday, taking aim at Ben Taylor.

Today, he got the fine he was expecting.
