Per multiple reports, Minnesota will send veteran point guard Ricky Rubio to Cleveland in exchange for Taurean Prince, a 2022 second-round pick and cash considerations.
Rubio, a former lottery pick of the Timberwolves in 2009, joins a rebuilding Cavaliers team that has not qualified for the playoffs since LeBron James departed for Los Angeles in 2018. The 30-year-old Spaniard would add a veteran presence to a young Cleveland backcourt headlined by Collin Sexton (22) and Darius Garland (21), with the former being mentioned in potential trade rumors.
Cleveland also holds the third overall pick in Thursday’s Draft.
Minnesota, meanwhile, appears content with its own young guard tandem of D’Angelo Russell and Anthony Edwards. The 24-year-old Russell played in just 42 games last season due to injury, while Edwards finished second in Kia Rookie of the Year voting after averaging 19.3 points.
The 6-foot-7 Prince adds big wing depth alongside those two and two-time All-Star big man Karl-Anthony Towns. Minnesota has made the postseason just once since 2004.
