Coast-to-Coast: Clutch Pacers strikes anew; Rockets, Nuggets spice up tight West two-seed battle

From historic romps to thrilling comeback barrages, the loaded 10-game NBA Tuesday certainly did not disappoint.

For the second time in the last six days, the Pacers showed up in the clutch. On the same night, four teams were separated by just one game in a heated race for the West no. 2 spot.


OBI TOPPIN WINS IT FOR PACERS; LAKERS GONE STREAKING

  • Indiana Pacers (38-29) def. Minnesota Timberwolves (40-30), 132-130: Obi Toppin was the hero for the short-handed Pacers, draining the game-winning, leaning corner triple that ended the Timberwolves’ eight-game winning run in overtime.

  • Indy, the Modern-day Clutch City?: In a span of a week, two of the wildest game-winners of the season took place as Tyrese Haliburton’s four-point play was followed by Toppin’s insane game-winning triple.
  • New York Knicks (43-24) def. Miami Heat (29-39), 116-95: Mikal Bridges and Karl-Anthony Towns combined for 51 points, helping the Knicks hand the Heat their first eight-game losing skid under the Erik Spoelstra era.

  • All Hart: Josh Hart stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 assists for his eighth triple-double of the season, matching Walt Frazier’s single-season franchise  record.
  • LA Lakers (42-25) def. San Antonio Spurs (28-39), 125-109: Austin Reaves unleashed his sixth 30-point game of the season, as the Lakers went streaking after losing four straight.

  • Detroit Pistons (38-31) def. New Orleans Pelicans (18-51), 127-81: Cade Cunningham and the Pistons scored their second largest road win in franchise history, thanks to a 46-point rout of the Pelicans.

  • Chicago Bulls (29-39) def. Utah Jazz (14-54), 111-97: Coby White bannered five starters in double figures with 26 points for a fourth Bulls victory in the last five games.


RED-HOT ROCKETS COMPLETE COMEBACK; NUGGETS SLOW DOWN WARRIORS

  • Houston Rockets (44-25) def. Philadelphia 76ers (23-45), 144-137: The red-hot Rockets tied their biggest comeback in the play-by-play era, claiming a seventh straight win after overcoming a 25-point deficit and the Sixers in overtime.

  • Double “J’s”: Jalen Green and Jabari Parker each dropped 30 points as Houston survived Quinten Grimes' career-game of 46 points, 13 rebounds, and eight threes.

  • Denver Nuggets (44-25) def. Golden State Warriors (39-29), 114-105: Despite missing superstars Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray, the Nuggets rode on Aaron Gordon’s hot hand and Russell Westbrook’s 203rd career triple-double to stall the Warriors.

  • Phoenix Suns (32-37) def. Toronto Raptors (24-45), 129-89: Devin Booker netted 27 points and the Suns recorded their first 40-point winning margin since 2009, crushing the Raptors to move just one game back of the West Play-in territory.

  • Portland Trail Blazers (30-39) def. Washington Wizards (15-52), 112-97: Anfernee Simmons dropped his fifth 30-point game of the month of March alone, lifting the Trail Blazers to back-to-back wins at the Wizards’ expense.  

  • Sacramento Kings (34-33) def. Memphis Grizzlies (43-26), 132-122: Despite losing Domantas Sabonis due to an ankle injury, Malik Monk, Zach LaVine, and DeMar Derozan help the Kings arrest a four-game skid after spoiling Desmond Bane’s season-high 44 points.
