Coast-to-Coast: LeBron James, Nikola Jokic get trip-dubs; NBA-best Cavaliers rack up wins

Two of the longest active winning streaks this season belong to teams who got bounced out early in the playoffs last season, the unbeaten Cleveland Cavaliers and Phoenix Suns.

In a busy 13-game slate, four players recorded a  triple-double outing while the sole undefeated team in the Cleveland Cavaliers are the first this season to reach double-digit wins. 


LEBRON JAMES, NIKOLA JOKIC BANNER QUARTET OF TRIPLE-DOUBLE PERFORMERS 

  • Los Angeles Lakers (5-4) def. Philadelphia 76ers (1-7), 116-106: The Lakers welcomed back Anthony Davis with a skid-stopping home dub over the struggling Sixers in Los Angeles.

  • Hollywood’s triple trouble: Davis continued his sizzling start to the season with 31 points, returning after missing one game due to a sore heel. It was his sixth 30-point game of the season.

 James added his second triple-double of the season and 114th overall with 21 markers, 12 rebounds, and 13 assists as he became the first Laker to record those numbers since Magic Johnson. 

  • Denver Nuggets (6-3) def. Miami Heat (3-5), 135-122: In this 2023 Finals rematch,  Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets made it four straight wins as Jamal Murray got a triumphant return. 

 

  • Joker 🤝 Blue Arrow: Jokic raced to a third straight triple-double and NBA-best fifth overall thanks to a 30-point, 11-rebound and 14 assists outing. 
Jamal Murray, who missed three-games due to concussion protocol, accumulated 28 points spiked on six threes, becoming the first player in Nuggets history to hit 1,000 career threes. 

 

  • Clutch in Cade’s county: Cunningham went berserk and finished with a third straight-double, scored the game winning bucket with 8.5 seconds left and sealed the game with a clutch block. 

The former no.1 overall pick stuffed the stat sheet with 22 points, 13 assists, and 11 rebounds, matching Grant Hill’s longest trip-dub streak in franchise history. 

It was also Cunningham’s fifth career-triple double, tied for second most in Pistons history with legendary point guard Isiah Thomas. 

  • Memphis Grizzlies (6-4) def. Washington Wizards (2-5), 128-104: Scottie Pippen Jr. made history in the Grizzlies 24-point beatdown of the lowly Wizards. 

  • Like Father, Like Son: Jaren Jackson Jr. was firing on all cylinders with a team-high 39 points but Pippen Jr. stole the show after recording his first career triple-double. 

 

The 23-year-old had 11 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists as he and his father, six-time champion Scottie Pippen, became the first father-son tandem in history to record a triple-double. 


  • Legit in the Land: Darius Garland topscored the Cavaliers, who had 83 first-half points and led by as many as 41, with 27 points.

The Cavs are now the first team since the 73-9 Warriors to start the season 10-0.

Cleveland also became the fourth team since 2000 to win their first 10 games, joining the 2016 Warriors (24-0), 2003 Dallas Mavericks (14-0), and 2001 Dallas Mavericks (10-0). 

  •  Phoenix Suns (8-1) def. Dallas Mavericks (5-4), 114-113: In a wild finish, the Suns are winners of seven straight after repeating over the Mavericks to share the West’s no.1 spot with the OKC Thunder.

 

  • Cardiac ending goes to the Suns: Kevin Durant fired 26 points while Jusuf Nurkic knocked down the game-winning free throw after getting fouled, crashing for an offensive rebound with 0.8 second left. 

 

  • Shoot your shot, Ant: Edwards was on target from deep, connecting on a career-high nine threes. He now drilled 50 three-pointers through the first nine games of the season, the third most in league history. 

 

  • LA Clippers (5-4) def. Sacramento Kings (5-4),107-98: In Sacramento, the Clippers are slowly getting their rhythm into the season after halting the Kings. 

 

  • All About ‘3s’: It was the third straight victory for the Clips, who lost three games prior to the winning streak. LA also improved to 3-0 on the road this season despite the continuing absence of superstar Kawhi Leonard. 

Norman Powell erupted for 31 points and 12 rebounds, James Harden added 22 while Ivica Zubac posted a 13-point, 15-rebound double-double. 


 

  • OKC Thunder (8-1) def. Houston Rockets (5-4), 126-107: Just like the Celtics, the Thunder bounced back quickly with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren’s combined 59 points guiding OKC to the victory. 

 

  • Charlotte Hornets (4-5) def. Indiana Pacers (4-5), 103-83: Lamelo Balls’ fourth quarter explosion on top of Brandon Miller’s 29-point, seven-triple outing powered teh Hornets to back-to-back wins. 

 

  • Orlando Magic (4-6) def. New Orleans Pelicans (3-7), 115-88: The Magic snapped a five-game skid following a 27-point trashing of the Pelicans, who suffered their fourth straight setback. 

 

  • New York Knicks (4-4) def. Milwaukee Bucks (2-7), 116-94: Karl-Anthony Towns registered his third 30-point, 10-rebound game of the season to steer the Knicks past the Bucks in MSG.
