After two weeks of play, the Cleveland Cavaliers are the only team left without a loss this season, as the Oklahoma City Thunder absorbed their first defeat after dropping a thrilling encounter in Denver.

Their loss on top of a Warriors and Suns win meant there’s a three-team tie for the number one spot in the West.

CLEVELAND, THIS IS FOR YOU

  •  Cleveland Cavaliers (9-0) def. New Orleans Pelicans (3-6), 131-122: Make it nine straight wins to open the season for the Cavaliers after sending the Pelicans to a third straight defeat.

  • Something’s cooking in the Land: Donovan Mitchell garnered 29 points, while four other Cleveland players scored 15 points or more to set a new franchise best 9-0 start.

They surpassed the 1976-77 Cavaliers' 8-0 start that finished 43-39 under coach Bill Fitch.

With the win, Kenny Atkinson became the first coach in NBA history to open the season with a new team at 9-0.

  • Mitchell on the Cavs’s unbeaten start: "We're playing the right way, I think that's the best part."

WARRIORS, SUNS FORCE THREE-WAY TIE WITH THUNDER ON TOP OF THE WEST

  • Denver Nuggets (5-3) def. OKC Thunder (7-1), 124-122: In a thrilling battle in Denver, the short-handed Nuggets overcame a 16-point deficit to stun the erstwhile unbeaten Thunder for a third straight win.

  • No “I” in win... sorta: It was a total team effort for the Nuggets, who are missing two starters Aaron Gordon (strained calf) and Jamal Murray (concussion protocol).
Nikola Jokic registered a league-leading fourth triple with an insane 23-20-16 statline, becoming just the third player in league history to record 20+ points, 20+ rebounds, and 15+ assists in a single game.

Michael Porter Jr. and Christian Braun added 24 apiece.

  • Not in my house, says Payton: Payton Watson made up for his missed free throws with a clutch block on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's game-tying attempt, the second straight game the Nuggets pulled off an impressive defensive stop to win the game.
  • Night, night Boston: Curry picked no better time to put up his season-high in points, scoring 27 including 10 in the final frame.

Golden State squandered a 14-point lead, trailed by six points midway through the fourth before rallying in the last six minutes to chalk up their fifth straight dub.

The Warriors also improved to 4-0 on the road, their best start since their 73-9 season way back in 2016-17.

  • Kerr got the last laugh: In their first visit in Boston, head coach Steve Kerr was heavily booed by the crowd.

It was worth remembering that Kerr benched Jayson Tatum in two games of Team USA’s gold medal run in the Paris Olympics, which the Celtics star did not took lightly.

Kerr said in pre-game interview that he “didn’t enjoy not playing Jayson" but did not directly answer if he had any regrets whatsoever.

Tatum responded with a 32-point night, including a 17-point third quarter outburst, and said that the treatment he had under Kerr “wasn’t on his mind” heading into the game.

  • Phoenix Suns (7-1) def. Miami Heat (3-4), 115-112: Kevin Durant was once again clutch in guiding the Suns to their sixth-straight win after fending off the Heat.

  • Viva Los Valley: Durant scored the Sun’s last six points en route to finishing 32 markers, his second successive 30-point game.

Devin Booker added 22 points and nine dimes while Jusuf Nurkic posted a 20-point, 18-rebound outing.

The Suns are now at league-best 5-0 at home and tied their best start in franchise history at 7-1.

It was back in the 2009-2010 season that Phoenix won seven of their first eight games and they went all the way to the Western Conference Finals that season.
