Kevon Looney’s decade-long run with the Golden State Warriors has come to a close. So has Brook Lopez’s seven-year tenure with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Two veteran centers with championship pedigrees are on the move as NBA free agency opens on Tuesday (PH time), July 1 marking the end of eras with their respective teams.
Looney agreed to a two-year $16 million deal with the New Orleans Pelicans, according to senior NBA insider Shams Charania.

The 29-year-old center spent all 10 of his NBA seasons with the Warriors, who selected him with the no. 30 overall pick in the 2015 draft out of UCLA.
He won three championships with Golden State and was one of the franchise’s longest-tenured players, alongside Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.
Looney averaged 4.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 76 games last season, primarily coming off the bench. His role diminished with the emergence of 2023 second-round pick Trayce Jackson-Davis.
But he now heads to New Orleans to reunite with former teammate Jordan Poole and will join a frontcourt that includes Zion Williamson and Jonas Valanciunas.

The 7-foot-1 center averaged 13.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks while shooting 37.3% from three-point range last season with the Bucks. He helped Milwaukee win the 2021 NBA championship and was a key piece of the team’s defensive identity during his tenure.
Lopez reunites with Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank, who coached him during his time with the Brooklyn Nets. He joins a frontcourt that already features Ivica Zubac, who posted career highs of 16.8 points and 12.6 rebounds last season.
The Clippers were eliminated by the Denver Nuggets in seven games in the first round of the playoffs.
