MANILA, Philippines — Philippine basketball icon Jimmy Alapag looked on his journey as a coach in the NBA and his family life as he celebrated his 47th birthday on Monday, December 30.

Posting a series of photos on Instagram, the Sacramento Kings’ player development coach expressed gratefulness for all that has transpired — not just in his job in the NBA, but also as a family man.

“Celebrating 47. GRATEFUL for all the lessons and blessings of this past year, and excited to see what God has in store for ’25.” wrote Alapag.

The photo set included moments in his career with the Sacramento Kings coaching staff, as well as delicate moments with his family. One of the snaps also included a photo with Sacramento player DeMar DeRozan, who Alapag works with in the team.

Alapag has now spent over a year with the Sacramento Kings having been promoted to the job back in August 2023.

Previously, the 47-year-old was part of the coaching staff on the team’s G League affiliate, the Stockton Kings.

However, Alapag’s future with the team currently hangs in the balance with former head coach Mike Brown’s firing. Alapag was Brown’s deputy when he was called up last year. Currently, the Kings are under interim head coach Doug Christie.

Alapag also posted a reflection on his Instagram story, which may allude to some challenges coming his way.

“Sometimes, the biggest blessings in life are on the other side of opposition… So we must keep going,” read the post.

Prior to his stints in Sacramento, Alapag had coaching jobs of different capacities among PBA teams like the Meralco Bolts and the San Miguel Beermen, and was head coach of Alab Pilipinas from 2017 to 2020.
