On the night of dreams, Jase Richardson got the ultimate alley-oop from destiny.

The son of two-time Slam Dunk contest champion Jason Richardson was selected 25th overall by the Orlando Magic in the 2025 NBA Draft, continuing a family legacy that began more than two decades ago.

Richardson averaged 12.1 points per game and shot 40.2% from three-point range in his lone collegiate season.

After starting the season coming off the bench, he earned a spot in the starting lineup for the final 15 games, where he averaged 16.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 30.4 minutes.

He helped lead Michigan State to the Big Ten title and an Elite Eight finish in the NCAA Tournament.

The 6-foot-3 guard out of Michigan State became the 22nd first-round selection in program history and the 12th under longtime head coach Tom Izzo. He is also the highest-drafted Spartan since Jaren Jackson Jr. went fourth overall to the Memphis Grizzlies in 2018.

Richardson joins a young Orlando team that recently acquired Desmond Bane in an offseason trade. With Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner leading the charge, the Magic are aiming to become legitimate title contenders.

Scouts have compared Richardson’s shooting style to that of NBA guards Jared McCain and Cameron Payne. As a starter at Michigan State, he shot 47% from the field and 42% from three-point range.
