He was the winner of the best young player award in the French League last season, beating out his childhood friend Sarr and UConn’s Donovan Clingan in the race to be the top pick.
Sarr then landed to Washington Wizards, using their highest selection in 14 years to add some much-needed size to a team that won only 15 games last season.

The 7-foot-1 Sarr played last season for the Perth Wildcats in Australia’s National Basketball League. He averaged 9.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.5 blocks in 30 games last season.
It marked the first time that two Frenchmen went 1-2 in a NBA Draft, also making Risacher and Sarr as the first pair of drafted players who played outside of US college.
Kentucky’s Reed Sheppard went to the Houston Rockets as the no. 3 pick while two-time NCAA champion Stephon Castle from UConn Huskies joins Wembanyama in Spurs as San Antonio selected him fourth overall.
