Extra Pass: Warriors aim for 1st road win, Suns look to end skid

The Warriors have yet to win a game on the road while the Suns are avoiding a third consecutive loss.

What’s up with the Golden State Warriors?

The Golden State Warriors (6-8) have been playing like two different teams this season as they have a 6-1 record at home but a league-worst 0-7 record on the road. Sitting now in the 10th spot in the Western Conference standings, it’s hard to believe that the NBA champs are struggling to get wins even if they still have their offensive core intact.

Stephen Curry is averaging his best numbers yet with 32.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game. He can be included in the MVP race if only the Warriors can change the tides this season.

Despite the apparent struggles of the Dubs, they still had a very impressive 132-95 win against the San Antonio Spurs. They were able to control the pace for the entire game, winning all four individual quarters by at least six points. Momentum was on their side the whole time which allowed them to lead by at least 15 points in the second half and as high as 41 points.

What’s up with the Phoenix Suns?

The Phoenix Suns (8-5) are in fourth place right now in their conference, just two wins behind the hot Utah Jazz. The Suns actually got off to a good start this season but things haven’t been working out for them since the absence of All-Star point guard Chris Paul, who is dealing with a heel injury.

They’re entering the matchup against the Curry-led Warriors as losers of three of their last four matches, but we can see Cameron Payne stepping up while CP3 is away. He’s been putting up superstar points for the squad, averaging 15.2 points in his last five games.

However, we already know who’s been holding the fort down for Phoenix and it’s none other than Devin Booker. He’s producing 26.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per match. The 26-year-old has been consistent in his performance so far so it really makes you wonder why he doesn’t get enough recognition as one of the best guards in the league right now.

Storyline to watch out for

The Suns are coming off back-to-back losses while the Warriors have not yet won a game on the road. It would be thrilling to see how these two teams are going to snap their own losing skids in the tough matchup.

Prediction

Even though Phoenix has a better record right now, I’ll say that the Warriors might be the stronger team in this incoming game.

Curry has been unstoppable so far this season and Jordan Poole will look to keep the ball rolling after a 36-point showing versus San Antonio. Meanwhile, Paul is still listed as questionable for this clash. His team has been having difficulty in closing games, especially after their tough losses to the Miami Heat and Orlando Magic.
