Coast-to-Coast: Hawks cool off Bucks; Heat, Timberwolves complete beatdown of LA teams

Two of the top teams in the East in the Boston Celtics and Orlando Magic also score key wins at home and on the road.

The LA teams made headlines but for the wrong reason. 

It was not the happiest day to be a Laker and Clipper fan after both squads suffered blowout losses on the same day the Atlanta Hawks went to Milwaukee to snap the Bucks’ seven-game winning run. 


HAWKS CRUISES TO FIFTH STRAIGHT WIN; CELTICS, MAGIC KEEP PACE AT THE TOP OF THE EAST 

  • Atlanta Hawks (12-11) def. Milwaukee Bucks (11-10), 119-104: In a battle of two teams streaking, the Hawks grounded the Bucks in Milwaukee.

 

  •  Higher, Further, Faster: Jalen Johnson finished with a 23-point, 12-rebound double-double, De'Andre Hunter added 20 markers as the Hawks now own the longest active winning streak in the East at five. 
  • Boston Celtics (18-4) def. Detroit Pistons (9-15), 130-120: Without superstar Jayson Tatum, three Celtics dropped 20 points or more to withstand the Pistons' shooting from deep. 

  • Next Men Up: Jaylen Brown took the scoring cudgels for Boston with 28 markers, Kristaps Porzingis and Sam Hauser chipped in 26 and 20 points respectively for the Celtics’ 18th victory of the season. 
  • Orlando Magic (16-8) def. Philadelphia 76ers (5-15), 106-102: Franz Wagner’s 35 points led a quick Magic rebound after fending off the Sixers.

 


HEAT, TIMBERWOLVES COMPLETE ROUT OF LA TEAMS

  • Miami Heat (10-10) def. LA Lakers (12-10), 134-93: Tyler Herro torched the Lakers with a 31-point outing in a 41-point Heat beatdown in South Beach.

  • Minnesota Timberwolves (11-10) def. LA Clippers (9-14), 108-80: Julius Randle set the tone early as the Timberwolves blasted the Clippers with a 28-point stomping.

  • Brooklyn Nets (10-13) def. Indiana Pacers (9-14), 99-90: Cam Johnson scored 26 points for the second straight game, helping the Nets end a three-game skid at the expense of the Pacers.
