Coast-to-Coast: Jewell Loyd’s game-winner rescues Aces; Napheesa Collier-led Lynx go 4-0

A four-game WNBA slate saw a couple of gutsy fourth quarter comebacks from the league-leading Minnesota Lynx and the Las Vegas Aces.

Meanwhile, the Seattle Storm and Golden State Valkyries strung their first win streak of the season.


LYNX, ACES STAGE GUTSY COMEBACKS; VALKYRIES EARN FIRST FRANCHISE ROAD DUB

  • Minnesota Lynx (4-0) def. Phoenix Mercury (0-3), 76-70: Make it four straight wins to start the season for the league-leading Lynx after a riveting 23-2 run in the final five minutes, staging an epic comeback against the winless Mercury.
  • Simply Phee-nomenal: Napheesa Collier put up another monster statline, finishing with a 33-point, 11-rebound double-double on top of three steals and three blocks.

The reigning Defensive Player of the Year became just the 10th player in league history to record 30+ points, 3+ steals, and 3+ blocks in a single game.

  • Las Vegas Aces (2-1) def. Washington Mystics (2-2), 75-72: Jewell Lloyd drills the game-winning triple with 2.1 seconds left, sealing a remarkable comeback win for the Aces. 

Las Vegas overturned a 72-66 deficit in the final 1:08 of the regulation via a clutch 9-0 closing run, winning their home-opener after splitting the first two games on the road.

  • Seattle Storm (2-1) def. Phoenix Mercury (2-1), 77-70: Skylar Diggins dished out a career-high 14 assists on top of firing 24 markers, helping the Storm hand the Mercury its first loss of the season. 

Meanwhile, Nneka Ogwumike tallied his second consecutive 20-point outing, pouring his own 24 markers as Seattle went streaking for the first time.

  • Golden State Valkyries (2-1) def. LA Sparks (1-3), 82-73: Carla Leite came off the bench to lead a balanced Valkyries attack, sending the Sparks crashing to a third straight loss. 

Leite netted 19 markers, Janelle Salaun chipped in 18, while Kayla Thornto and Veronica Burton logged 14 and 12 points respectively in Golden State’s first ever franchise road win.
