In one of the more interesting duels of the NBA season, no. 1 pick Victor Wembanyama shined against one of the league’s marquee franchises.

Wembanyama put up a career-high 40 points, then added another 20 rebounds and seven assists to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 130-126 win Saturday (PHL).

His performance and the Spurs’ victory overshadowed Jalen Brunson, who himself had a spectacular game.

Brunson scored a career-high 61, one point shy of the Knicks’ all-time record set by Carmelo Anthony in 2014.

Wembanyama drilled a booming three-pointer to get him to 40, giving the Spurs a 128-124 lead with 1:12 left. The basket was in direct response to Brunson’s score that got him to 61, which cut the deficit to one the possession prior.

The Knicks had the chance for the win, but Brunson’s three that would have also given him the Knicks record was long with 3.1 seconds left.

Devin Vassell had 23 points for San Antonio, while Keldon Johnson added 17 as the Spurs win three straight.

Donte DiVincenzo contributed 20 points for the Knicks.
