The 2022 NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics was the top most searched topic by Filipinos in 2022, according to data recently released by Google.
The Warriors beat the Celtics in six games to win their fourth title in eight years.
The Filipinos' love for the game was evident as the NBA dominated the sports searches in 2022 by accounting for eight of the top 10 topics. Six of the eight topics were related to the NBA playoffs, including the Warriors-Mavericks, Warriors-Grizzlies, and Heat-Celtics series.
The Celtics and Warriors were also the only two NBA franchises that made the top 10 most searched sports teams.
As far as athletes are concerned, WNBA star Brittney Griner ranked 6th on the list of top trending athlete searches of 2022. Griner recently returned to the U.S. after being arrested and prisoned in Russia for nearly 10 months.
