What went down

Talk about the stunner of all stunners.

The Minnesota Timberwolves unleashed a ruthless 22–0 finishing kick to shock the Houston Rockets, 107-101. Karl-Anthony Towns scored 14 of his 29 points in the closing run as the Timberwolves snapped their four-game slide.

Despite the improbable win, Towns was quick to downplay their success.

''We won the game. It's great, but we didn't deserve it,'’ said Towns, who also pulled down 16 rebounds. ''I can tell you right now there was no cheering or jubilation in that locker room. That was a very disappointing night for all of us.''

The Timberwolves weren’t happy with the win but it was still a surreal victory. The Rockets were up 101-85 with 7:31 remaining but the final score read 107-101 in favor of the Timberwolves. The Rockets couldn’t find the bottom of the net in the fourth quarter, shooting just 3-for-22 for the period and went scoreless in the last seven minutes and a half.

According to ESPN Stats and Info, the Rockets became the fourth team in the last 25 years to go scoreless in the final 7:30 of a game.

Big-time ballers

James Harden’s 44 points was the highest point total on Saturday but we’re splitting the proverbial game ball to two rising stars who notched career-highs.

Atlanta’s John Collins erupted for 38 points on a crisp 14-for-19 clip, including 4-for-5 from downtown, and also grabbed 12 rebounds to commandeer the Hawks to a 124-108 win over the Warriors.

Meanwhile, Zion Williamson had himself a game for the Pelicans with an eye-popping 39 points, only missing thrice in 19 attempts. He also had 10 boards and five dimes, but the Pelicans fell short to the Nuggets.

What he said

Here’s what James Harden said when he was asked if he belonged in the MVP conversation after dropping 44-14-8, his best scoring output in a Nets uniform while notching his 31st career 40-point, 10-rebound game:

Did you see that?

Check this out for the lob to Blake Griffin, but stay for the “I STILL GOT IT!” roar after.
