What went down
The NBA All-Star week has been full of excitement, from DK Metcalf dazzling in the Celebrity All-Star Game to Mac McClung bringing life to the Slam Dunk Contest. Now, we saw the most popular names in the league battle it out for Team Giannis and Team LeBron in the much-awaited All-Star Game.
Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics put up a new All-Star Game record of 55 points, knocking down 10 3-pointers that earned him the MVP honors while leading Team Giannis to a 184-175 victory over Team LeBron in the annual showcase game at Salt Lake City.
He split the two free throws to get point No. 52 and make it 177-162. He was able to surpass the 52 points set by Anthony Davis in 2017.

As expected of the All-Star match, a lot of players poured in points to demonstrate their skills on the floor. We have Cleveland Cavaliers’ Donovan Mitchell, formerly of the Utah Jazz, make eight 3-pointers to deliver 40 points and 10 dishes for Team Giannis.
Damian Lillard made it rain from the logo as he hit eight 3-pointers to finish with 26 points. He also capped off the game with the ever-reliable 3, hitting the target score of 184 for Team Giannis.

Meanwhile, Jaylen Brown of the Celtics led Team LeBron with 35 points and a game-high 14 boards. He finished strong after showing off his scoring masterclass against Tatum in the back-and-forth matchup.

Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo scored the game’s first point on a dunk and sat out for the night. He sprained his right wrist in Milwaukee’s final regular-season game before the All-Star game break.
Meanwhile, LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers missed the second half after injuring his right hand in the first half. He injured his pinky finger when he tried to block a shot by Pascal Siakam of the Toronto Raptors.

LeBron’s second pick, Kyrie Irving, exploded for 18 points on 8/9 field goals in the first half, putting up 32 points and 15 assists.

Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers was picked first out of the starting pool and also scored 32 points for Team LeBron.

LeBron scored a modest 13 points in 14-plus minutes while serving as captain of Team LeBron, sharing the All-Star selections record of 19 with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
