What went down

In a thin day for basketball, the New Orleans Pelicans got a huge road win over the Denver Nuggets.

The Pelicans are in the mad scramble in the 7th-11th spots of the Western Conference standings. They are now at 39-38, tied for 7th with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Right behind them are the Los Angeles Lakers (38-38), Oklahoma City Thunder (38-39), the Dallas Mavericks (37-40), and the Utah Jazz (36-40). With a little over a week left in the regular season, expect this storyline to keep dominating the headlines.

The Pelicans, still without Zion Williamson and Jose Alvarado, leaned on Brandon Ingram’s triple-double (31 points, 11 boards, and 10 assists) for their wire-to-wire win over the Denver Nuggets, who rested Nikola Jokic.

The Nuggets are comfortably in the top spot of the West with a 51-25 record, 2.5 games ahead of the 48-28 Memphis Grizzlies. With only six games left on their schedule, the Nuggets are likely to stay on top of the West, barring a catastrophic collapse.

Big-time baller

Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics made light work of the other game today. Tatum hung 40 points on the Milwaukee Bucks in a game where they led by as much as 39 points.

The win did push the Celtics (53-24) just two games behind the Bucks (55-22) for the top seed in the East. This will matter, especially after their epic seven-game series last year.

What he said

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was in a camp in San Francisco yesterday, and he had this to say about how kids are learning basketball today.

Did you see that?

There were lots of small new bits that occurred in the wee hours of Philippine time. First, Julius Randle will likely be out with an ankle injury until around the first round of the playoffs.

In sneaker news, Steph Curry and Under Armor agreed to a deal that will keep the two-time MVP with UA well until after his career. The Currys have been a hit in the Philippines, especially in volleyball leagues.
