What went down
It was a perfect night for all Utah fans as they saw their former superstar Donovan Mitchell give another impressive performance in a loss to the Jazz.
Mitchell posted 46 points, six assists, and zero turnovers in his return to Vivint Arena. He went off to lead his new team but could not seal the win, thanks to a huge night from Jordan Clarkson in the final minutes, 116-114.
It was a back-and-forth game in the first half but the Jazz dominated in the third frame to put them up by double digits. Mitchell, however, went on a personal 10-0 run to overtake the Jazz in the fourth quarter. From that point, it looked like it was already Cleveland’s game but Clarkson kept going in the last stretch.
The former NBA Sixth Man of the Year scored nine straight points to push Utah into the lead. He made a three-pointer, a free throw, a possession from Caris LeVert’s flagrant foul, then drew another foul from a 3-point attempt.
Clarkson salvaged the match for Utah with 32 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Lauri Markkanen, who was traded for Mitchell, came up with 25 points and 16 boards. On the losing end, Darius Garland contributed 21 points and 6 assists.
Big-time ballers
Jimmy Butler finished with 35 points, seven rebounds, and four steals, including a clutch and-1 that gave the Miami Heat the win versus OKC. The star contributed 23 out of 23 FTM as the Heat recorded a new NBA record of 40 free throws without a miss.
Kawhi Leonard goes 9-12 from the floor and 12-12 from the charity stripe in the Clippers’ win at home against the Mavericks. Luka Doncic exploded again for 43 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.
