What went down

How do you stop a team that’s been bulldozing opponents left and right like the Utah Jazz? Well, all it takes are a dash of Luka Magic and a balanced attack.

Luka Doncic grabbed headlines with his 31-point, 9-rebound, 8-assist game, but he got a lot of help from his teammates even without star Kristaps Porzingis who's nursing a sprained right wrist.

Dorian Finney-Smith had his best scoring game of the season with 23 points. The rest of Dallas’ supporting crew was just as superb with contributions from Jalen Brunson (20 points), Josh Richardson (17 points), and Tim Hardaway Jr. (16 points)

With the victory, the Mavericks posted a season-best five straight wins and they also put the brakes on the Jazz’s nine-game winning streak.

Over in New York City, the battle for hometown supremacy between the Nets and the Knicks lived up to the hype.

Kyrie Irving had a big game but Jeff Green's free throws with 3.7 seconds left sealed the Nets' victory. James Harden’s return didn’t last very long as his hamstring injury forced him to sit out after just four minutes.

The Knicks had a chance to send the game to overtime after Green's foul shots but Julius Randle’s jumper missed at the buzzer.

Big-time baller

Kyrie Irving put on a show in Brooklyn with 40 points and seven assists. He unleashed his entire offensive repertoire against the Knicks who had no answer for him. He made tough shots, ridiculous shots, and a couple of downright impossible shots. But for Irving, it was just another day at the office.

What he said

Darius Garland had a career-high 37 points as the Cavaliers put the hammer down against the Spurs with a 24-point blowout.

''I actually said something at shootaround early this morning,'' Garland said. ''I was like, 'It's going to be a good day.' Everybody was locked in during shootaround, no horseplaying.’'

For Mr. Garland and the Cavs, it was a good day indeed.

Did you see that?

After just six games, newly acquired Gary Trent Jr. already has his Raptors moment. Check out the drive, Jordan-like shove, and pull-up 3 from the top of the key:
