What went down

It was In-Season Tournament day again and we got several great games out East. In Orlando, the Magic throttled the Boston Celtics for their sixth consecutive win. The win also placed them atop the East C group for the In-Season Tournament.

While it’s usually Franz doing damage for the Magic, today it was Mo Wagner who dominated the Celtics for 27 points off the bench. The Magic’s youth and versatility have been key to their red-hot performance. Today, the Celtics just couldn’t keep up.

Perhaps, the Magic still hold a grudge against the Celtics. Last season, former Celtic Eddie House said some unkind words about the Magic franchise. Since House’s statement, Orlando is 4-0 against Boston.

In New York, the Knicks erased a 21-point second half deficit and outlasted the Miami Heat. The win kept New York in the hunt for Vegas with a 2-1 record in East B, just a game behind the 3-0 Milwaukee Bucks.

The Knicks outscored the Heat 29-11 in the fourth quarter. Jalen Brunson dropped 24 points against the Knicks’ old rivals and revealed he got extra motivation from a passionate Knicks fan.

Big-time baller

Without Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal, the Phoenix Suns still breezed past the Memphis Grizzlies, thanks to a big game from Devin Booker.

Booker had his shot falling all game, going off for 40 points on 15-for-21 shooting. There’s nothing quite like a Devin Booker heater in the league as he just starts making absurd shots as he heats up. The Suns need more of this as they’re now 7-1 this season with Booker in the lineup.

What he said

Former NBA MVP and Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett has had it with how NBA discourse has evolved over the years, especially among his fellow former players. Speaking with Stephen A. Smith, Garnett urged his fellow old-heads to show more love.

Did you see that?

Ausar Thompson is going to be a great player for years to come. He could possibly win several Defensive Player of the Year trophies as he’s no doubt the scariest defender in the league among his age group.

This play against Tyrese Haliburton will not be in his highlight reel.

Extra pass

The Los Angeles Lakers visit the Cleveland Cavaliers tomorrow – a game you can watch on NBA TV Philippines or Pilipinas Live at 8:30 AM. The King has come back to Cleveland several times, but each occasion has been special.

Turning 39 in December, LeBron James has been having another special season as he continues to outrun Father Time. The Cavaliers haven’t been as good as they were last season, but Donovan Mitchell and company won’t be cordial hosts for Akron’s finest.
