What went down

Luka Doncic continues to redefine “Luka Magic” as he put together a historical performance in the win over the Knicks. He had the NBA’s first-ever 60-point, 20-rebound triple-double, doing it all to get the victory.

One of the highlights of Luka’s ethereal display was his game-tying basket after intentionally missing a free throw with a second remaining. His late-game heroics capped off a huge rally by the Mavericks who were down by nine points with 33 seconds left.

Doncic scored 18 points in the fourth then had seven more in overtime to seal the win. Dinwiddie, who knocked down a crucial 3-pointer in the closing moments of regulation, finished with 25 points. The Mavericks extended their win streak to four games.

For New York, Quentin Grimes had a career-high 33 points. Julius Randle also had a big game with 29 points and 18 rebounds as the Knicks lost their fourth straight contest.

Big-time baller

Here’s Luka’s full stat line on Wednesday: 60 points on 21-for-31 shooting, two triples, 16-for-22 from the line, 21 rebounds, 10 assists, two steals, and one block.

Let’s break down his big night:

His 60-point, 20-rebound game is a first in league history.

His 60 points are a career-high for him - the most by any Mavericks player, eclipsing Dirk Nowitzki’s previous high of 53. His 21 rebounds are also a personal best for him while his 21 made field goals match a franchise record.

Doncic is also the third player in NBA history to record at least 50 points, 20 boards, and 10 dimes. The two other players are Wilt Chamberlain and Elgin Baylor.

What he said

Many current and former NBA players took to social media after Doncic’s epic performance. There were reactions from Kevin Garnett, Pau Gasol, Kevin Durant, Nikola Vucevic, and Kristaps Porzingis just to name a few. Here’s Luka’s honest and innocent reaction after the game:

Did you see that?

This was a pure and unfiltered reaction after Luka sank the tough jumper to send the game into overtime.

It was a three-point game with time winding down in regulation. Not wanting to give up a triple, the Knicks fouled Doncic before he could attempt from beyond the arc. The Slovenian superstar made the first, missed the second on purpose, got the rebound, and made the unbelievable game-tying basket. It’s a rarity in the game to get a shot after intentionally missing a free throw so this celebration was definitely warranted.
