What went down

Here come the Brooklyn Nets.

Kyrie Irving went off versus the Boston Celtics with a masterful 40-point piece, propelling the Nets to a 121-109 win. The new super team in the East has now won 11 of its last 12 games.

And the surge in Brooklyn is happening while Kevin Durant is still out with an injury and Blake Griffin has yet to play a game.

'We have a multitude of guys who can take us home and carry it out, and we trust in them,’’ said Landry Shamet, who netted 18 points. ''It's just a matter of us putting an entire game together and putting us in the best position possible.’'

It was a tightly contested ball game entering the fourth quarter until the Nets broke loose. The Nets held a precarious four-point lead with roughly three minutes to play before Irving put up a game-clinching stretch. He drilled two clutch treys and two free throws in a personal 8-3 scoring run as the home team sealed the win.

Big-time baller

To get his 40 points, Kyrie Irving shot a fiery 15-of-23 from the field, including 5-of-8 from downtown. This was his fifth 40-point performance for the Nets, which is tied for third-most in franchise history.

Irving was deadly down the stretch, knocking down timely long bombs to help create separation for the Nets. His All-Star performance did not go unnoticed by the Brooklyn faithful inside the Barclays Center as he received MVP chants late in the game.

What he said

Joel Embiid didn’t play in the Philadelphia 76ers’ game against the Chicago Bulls but he still had his sense of humor. Embiid, along with Ben Simmons, were inactive for contact tracing as the 76ers easily defeated the Bulls, 127-105.

Fourth-year center Tony Bradley played out of his mind with a 7-for-7 shooting display to end up with 14 points. He also had five rebounds and three blocks. The stunning performance prompted Embiid to fire a tweet:

Did you see that?

Tony Snell FTW!

The Atlanta Hawks overcame a 15-point hole in the final six minutes to get the victory over the Toronto Raptors. And the Snell buzzer-beating triple was the perfect ending.
