What went down
The last time an NBA game was played in Madison Square Garden, the general feeling was that of silence. Trae Young did that.
But in the Knicks’ very first game of this fresh season, MSG was anything but silent. Julius Randle did that. New recruits Evan Fournier and Kemba Walker did that. Jaylen Brown—due to an unscheduled eruption—also did that.
“MSG was rocking!” Fournier tweeted after the game, his fingers probably still shaking and ears probably still ringing from the double-overtime intensity.
The Knicks got away with a nerve-racking win, but it shouldn’t have been that way. Two clutch 3s from Brown and Marcus Smart sent the game to overtime.
In extra time, Fournier continued the hot shooting. He finished with 32 points on six 3s. Randle led the Knicks in scoring with 35 points.
The Knicks crept away with the victory, spoiling Brown’s 46-point career game.
New York’s playoff run ended because of lack of scoring help for Randle. It’s too early to tell, but it looks like he found the aid he needs in Fournier.
Big-time baller
Zach LaVine went off against the Detroit Pistons, scoring a clean 34 points.
He only missed six shots and hit a perfect 11-of-11 from the line.
What he said
Anthony Edwards came out firing against the Rockets. He scored 24 points in the first half and even urged the Houston bench to call a timeout.
