What went down

The battle between the Miami Heat and Denver Nuggets was not as exciting as advertised.

It was the first time Miami and Denver met after the Nikola Jokic-Makieff Morris incident a few weeks back. And it sort of played out the same, minus all the hard fouls with the Nuggets taking a 120-111 win over the Heat to snap their six-game skid.

Both teams played without some of their key players due to injuries. Tyler Herro and Jimmy Butler were unavailable for the Heat, while the Nuggets missed Michael Porter Jr. and PJ Dozier. Morris remains sidelined and has missed 11 games already due to the Jokic incident.

Jokic dropped a near triple-double in his first game back from a wrist injury. He finished with 24 points, 15 rebounds, and seven assists. Aaron Gordon complemented his MVP teammate with 20 points, four rebounds, and five assists.

Denver held onto the lead for most of the first half behind Jokic, who was on fire after going 7-of-8 from the field for 17 points. The Nuggets did everything right, making most of their shots, and getting stops when they needed it.

The Heat, on the other hand, couldn’t figure things out early on as Duncan Robinson struggled from the field (1-of-9). Bam Adebayo tried to lead a third-quarter comeback, dropping 15 points in the period after scoring just four in the first half. But the Nuggets kept their foot on the gas as the lead ballooned to 24 points.

Adebayo (24 points and 13 rebounds) and Kyle Lowry (17 points and 14 assists) finished with double-doubles in the loss for the Heat.

Big-time baller

After a horrendous 1-16 record at the start of the season, the Houston Rockets are back on track, riding a three-game winning streak after defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Christian Wood had one of his individual best performances, posting 24 points and 21 rebounds. He is now averaging a double-double for the first time in his career. Wood is also 6th in the league in rebounding this season.

What he said

Karl-Anthony Towns led the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 12-point comeback over the Indiana Pacers. He finished with 32 points, eight rebounds, and two assists. Even with KAT’s stellar contribution, it was Josh Okogie’s late-game block that stole the show and sealed the deal for Minnesota.

“That was the biggest play of the game, Josh Okogie made an amazing play. A lot of contact but he still found a way to keep his balance, keep his base, and made a great play,” said Towns. ”Shoutout to Josh, we know he can do that anytime. He’s a first team all-defender in this league.”

Joel Embiid isn’t the only one throwing it down in Philadelphia. Scooby the Chihuahua reminded everyone you don’t have to be a 7-footer (or human) to get dunks!
