What went down
Giannis Antetokounmpo was on fire tonight as he scored 50 monster points in 30 minutes of play against the New Orleans Pelicans, 135-110. His performance was only five off the career-high he set last January 4 in a 123-113 win over the Washington Wizards.
Jrue Holiday and Brook Lopez helped the Greek Freak out with 17 and 15 of their own. New Orleans never really got close in this matchup, ultimately losing their eight straight game.
The Pelicans played their second straight night that ended in a loss, the most recent being a 113-103 homecourt bust to the Wizards. It’s obvious they’re struggling, especially since their top three scorers are sidelined for the meantime.
Zion Williamson has not played since January 2 due to a strained right hamstring. Meanwhile, Brandon Ingram was out because of a toe injury and CJ McCollum sat out for his sprained right thumb.
Even if the Pelicans’ roster was complete in the face-off, they would’ve certainly struggled on a night where Giannis was feeling it all throughout the game. The MVP had 16 points midway through the first frame, and even scored 12 straight points for the Bucks with less than four minutes left in the game to keep them ahead of their opponents. He capped off his scoring stretch with back-to-back 3-pointers, finally preventing any late comeback by the Pelicans.
Big-time ballers
Terry Rozier puts on a show in the Hornets’ win with 31 points, six rebounds, including five 3-pointers. Jimmy Butler produced 28 points, seven rebounds, and three steals in the loss.
Ja Morant recorded his fifth triple-double of the season with 27 markers, 10 boards, and 15 dishes as the Memphis Grizzlies came back from a 19-point deficit to pick up the win at home. The Cavaliers meanwhile led wire-to-wire and picked up a huge homecourt win behind Cedi Osman’s 29 points and career-high seven 3-pointers.
