What went down
An important Western Conference showdown took place in Portland as the Clippers triumphed over the Trail Blazers, 113-112. Both teams were undermanned but the stakes surrounding their matchup didn’t damper the action.
The Clippers are third in the West with a 40-19 record and the Trail Blazers are still in sixth after the loss at 32-24. Every win counts at this stage in the season, more so with the impending play-in tournament drawing near.
CJ McCollum and Carmelo Anthony valiantly tried to get the win to bolster their chances of earning a guaranteed playoff spot. A 3-pointer from McCollum gave Portland a five point lead, 112-107, with a minute left but it was countered by back-to-back drives from Paul George. After a defensive stop by the Clippers, George went to the hoop once again, drawing a foul. He knocked down both charity shots with 4.8 ticks left that eventually led to the LA win.
George finished with a game-high 33 points, scoring eight of the last ten points of the Clippers.
Big-time baller
The Minnesota Timberwolves will end up having another lottery season, but their future remains promising as ever. The cornerstone of the team’s development is none other than Karl-Anthony Towns.
Against the Kings, KAT had a monster line of 26 points, including four triples, 18 rebounds, five assists, and four blocks.
