What went down

The Philadelphia Sixers gave a stern reminder to the upstart Bulls that if they want to be considered among the best teams in the East, they still have to go through them first.

Despite being short-handed, the Sixers found a way to notch their fourth straight victory. Joel Embiid powered his way to 18 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, and a critical block late in the game. Seth Curry led the team with 22 points.

Philadelphia was still without Ben Simmons, as well as Danny Green who was out with a hamstring injury. Meanwhile, Tobias Harris, unfortunately, tested positive for COVID-19 and is under the league's health and safety protocols.

The Bulls were down by as many as 18 points and tried to mount another comeback. In their last game, they roared back from a 19-point deficit against the Celtics and won. This time, they just fell short.

Lonzo Ball hit a corner three and DeMar DeRozan hit another jumper to make it a two-point game with under 30 seconds left. But Curry responded with a jump shot of his own to push the Sixers’ advantage to 102-98. The Bulls had another chance to close the gap but DeRozan's dunk attempt was blocked by Embiid. It was initially ruled a foul until the Sixers challenged the call.

Big-time baller

Let's give it up to the Cleveland Cavaliers who are knocking on the proverbial team-you-have-to-take-notice door. Through nine games, they are at 5-4. Not out-of-this-world great, but after years of being in the doldrums, it's good to see them hovering above .500.

On Thursday, Jarrett Allen had a knockout game of 24 points and 17 rebounds in a win over the Portland Trail Blazers. He shot 9-for-15 from the field and 6-for-9 from the line. He's been posting solid numbers and has been one of the reasons why Cleveland is rocking again.

What he said

Sometimes a block is too good and too clean that you have to let the other guy know so you can both share a laugh.

Did you see that?

Don't you just love a dunk with that special sound like somebody punched the ball through the net? Gary Payton II may be a defensive specialist but he sure can throw it down.
