What went down

There was a lot of rumble in the Eastern Conference highlighted by an overtime nail-biter between the Sixers and the Hornets.

Joel Embiid unleashed 43 points to withstand a gritty effort from a depleted Hornets team. Five Charlotte players were out due to health and safety protocols, including star point guard LaMelo Ball.

Kelly Oubre Jr. fired 35 points but missed on a late triple that could have sent the game into another extra session. It was a collective effort for the short-handed Hornets with seven of the eight players scoring in double digits. Embiid, however, was simply unstoppable down the stretch.

In a duel between two East teams who are trying to gain consistency this season, the Pacers (10-16) defeated the Wizards (14-11). Last season, these two teams met in the play-in tournament with Washington gaining the last playoff ticket. In this particular matchup, the Pacers were eager to show that they are a different team this year.

Domantas Sabonis filled the stat sheet with 30 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, and three steals to help Indiana halt a four-game skid. After a hot start, the Wizards have cooled off, losing their third straight game, and are 4-6 in their last 10 games.

Big-time baller

The Sixers needed every single one of Joel Embiid's 43 points to avoid an upset against the star-less Hornets. The big man stepped in the only way he knows how by dominating the game.

Embiid had 15 rebounds and seven assists to go with his season-high point total. He went 15-for-20 from the field and 12-for-14 from the line.

What he said

Kemba Walker has been taken out of the Knicks' rotation but he wasn't the first one to frown about it. It's all about staying classy and being a professional for the veteran guard.

Did you see that?

It's Giannis Antetokounmpo's special day and he had a sweet line of 27 points in 27 minutes on his 27th birthday.
