What went down

The 2023–24 season has just begun, and we can already observe how players are easing into the new year. In today’s games, we got to see a sample of the talent on the revamped rosters in the league.

The Sixers picked up their first win of the season as they defeated the Toronto Raptors, 114-107, over at the Scotiabank Arena. Reigning MVP Joel Embiid and rising star Tyrese Maxey were on fire tonight and tallied 34 points each to lead the way for the comeback win.

On their first road trip, the Utah Jazz absorbed a blowout loss to the Suns. Kevin Durant made it look so easy after pulling up dagger after dagger that resulted in 26 points. One more thing that came out of that Suns’ win was a little razzle-dazzle from Yuta Watanabe that got the whole Suns' bench wilding.

Everyone knows that when Zion Williamson is healthy, he’s dangerous. He’s back to bullying in the paint, coming up with 24 points on a 12/17 field goal day in the Pelicans’ home opener versus the Knicks.

The other games of the day featured the Pistons securing a comfortable win over the Bulls, Poole and the Wizards taking advantage of the Grizzlies, Pacers rolling past the Cavaliers, and the Timberwolves snatching a win from the Butler-less Miami Heat.

Big-time baller

The biggest baller of the night would be Zach LaVine.

The Bulls’ star was on his A-game tonight, putting up 51 points, which included seven made 3s. He became the only other player to score 51 points with zero assists. Now, that’s real hooping.

What he said

"When [Zion Williamson] is healthy, the New Orleans Pelicans can get to the Finals."

Stephen A. Smith knows that despite the injuries, the big guy is still one of the most impressive talents in the whole league.

Did you see that?

One of the two teenagers to register at least 23 points, 15 rebounds, and five assists in NBA history is LeBron James. The other one?

Jalen Duren.

Extra Pass

Tomorrow, we’re going to witness a rematch between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Miami Heat. This is after the Heat caught everyone by surprise and defeated the Bucks in the first round of the playoffs last year.

It would be exciting to see how the Heat would once again strategize playing against one of the strongest players in the league in Giannis Antetokounmpo. He’s one of the finest talents in the game, especially when you factor in his scoring abilities and defense under the rim. The Heat have proven that they can rise up to the challenge, but then again, it’s a whole new season for all of us so let’s see who takes the cake tomorrow.

You can catch the Bucks and the Heat live on NBA TV Philippines.
