What went down
The crowd belting out “Jose” to the tune of “Ole,” is all you need to know how the New Orleans Pelicans defeated the Denver Nuggets.
The Pels got an uplifting win thanks to a career performance from Jose Alvardo. The undrafted guard, known for his pesky defense, lit up the scoreboard for 38 points, including a personal-best eight 3-pointers. He came off the bench when his team was down double-digits in the first period and he completely changed the complexion of the game.
According to ESPN Stats & Info, Alvarado’s 38 points were the most off the bench by any Pelicans player in franchise history and the highest total by a non-starter and undrafted player since the 1970-1971 season.
The Pelicans are second in the Western Conference with a 15-8 record, and they’ve also won four straight games.
Big-time baller
Anthony Davis is back. Like back, back.
If you already thought that he’s returned to elite status, then his game against the Wizards exceeded all expectations.
Davis dropped a double nickel, 55 points, on a scorching 22-for-30 shooting clip, alongside 17 rebounds and three blocks to help the Lakers get the W.
AD is on a crazy stretch right now. Because of his 55-point performance and his 44 points in the previous game, he became the first Laker to have back-to-back 40-point games since Kobe Bryant in March 2013. He’s putting up 35.3 points in his last nine outings.
What he said
Whenever you have Laker royalty praising you, you know you did something special. Like all of us, former Los Angeles legend Pau Gasol was in awe of AD’s 55-point performance.
AD is absolutely killing! That’s what I’m talking about!! Keep it rolling @lakers!
