Coast-to-Coast: Yang Hansen flashes potential in Summer League debut; Kobe Bufkin, Ron Holland II drop buckets

Day 2 of the 2025 NBA Summer League Las Vegas saw eight teams barging into the win column led by the Portland Trail Blazers, Atlanta Hawks, and the Detroit Pistons.

Portland Trail Blazers rookie big man Yang Hansen showcased the potential that made him a surprise 16th overall pick, delivering an all-around performance in his Summer League debut against the Golden State Warriors.

Meanwhile, Kobe Bufkin and Ron Holland II impressed at the Thomas and Mack Center with explosive offensive performances for the Atlanta Hawks and Detroit Pistons, respectively.


HANSEN IMPRESSES FOR TRAIL BLAZERS; BUFKIN, HOLLAND II SHOW OFFENSIVE ARSENAL 

  • Portland Trail Blazers (1-0) def. Golden State Warriors (0-1), 106-73: Yang Hansen impressed in his Summer League debut following the Trail Blazers’ 33-point beatdown of the Warriors. 

The 16th pick of the recent draft finished with 10 points, five assists, four rebounds, and three blocks in 24 minutes of play.

  • Atlanta Hawks (1-0) def. Miami Heat (0-1), 105-98: Kobe Bufkin erupted for 29 points as the Hawks rallied from a 12-point deficit in the fourth quarter to stun the Heat.

Bufkin was flawless from the free throw line, going a perfect 15-for-15, as Atlanta closed the game with a scorching 28-9 run over the final 5:44 to complete the comeback.

  • Detroit Pistons (1-0) def. New York Knicks (0-1), 104-86: Ron Holland II delivered a dominant performance with a 28-point, 11-rebound double-double in a commanding Pistons win over the Knicks.

The 20-year-old forward shot 8-for-12 from the field, including 4-for-5 from beyond the arc, and added three steals and two assists in just 28 minutes of action. 

  • Phoenix Suns (1-0) def. Washington Wizards (0-1),103-84: No. 10 pick Khaman Maluach contributed 14 points and five rebounds in a strong Suns victory over the Wizards.

Koby Brea led the way for Phoenix with 19 points, while sophomore guard Ryan Dunn added 18 to the effort.

  • LA Clippers (1-0) def. Houston Rockets (0-1), 95-92: Jordan Miller powered his way to a 23-point, 11-rebound double-double to lift the Clippers to a hard-fought opening-game victory over the Rockets.

Cam Christie added 21 points as LA spoiled Reed Sheppard’s 28-point performance, denying Houston their first win of the Summer League Las Vegas.

  • Toronto Raptors (1-0) def. Chicago Bulls (0-1), 116-72: A.J. Lawson dropped 22 points in just 20 minutes in a whopping 44-point Raptors blowout of the Bulls. 

Lawson added six rebounds and four threes as Chicago outscored Toronto, 95-48, in the final three quarters en route to a statement Summer League opener.  

  • Charlotte Hornets (1-0) def. Utah Jazz (0-1), 111-105: Three Hornets players scored 20 points or more as Charlotte overcame Kyle Filipowski’s 32-point performance to defeat the Jazz. 

Liam McNeeley contributed a well-rounded effort with 22 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists, while KJ Simpson and Tidjane Salaun added 21 and 20 points, respectively.

  • Boston Celtics (1-0) def. Memphis Grizzlies (0-1), 92-78: Jordan Walsh led a balanced Celtics effort in an impressive Summer League Las Vegas debut against the Grizzlies. 

Walsh scored a team-high 17 points, while Charles Bassey added 14. Hugo Gonzalez and Kenneth Lofton Jr. contributed 23 points combined in a dominant 14-point victory.
