Storm 79, Sun 57
What went down
It seems only fitting that the reigning WNBA champions became the first team to win the inaugural WNBA Commissioner's Cup.
The Seattle Storm wrote their names into the history books as the first-ever winners of the in-season tournament by defeating the Connecticut Sun in dominating fashion.
The Commissioner's Cup is a new innovation by the league to create a different level of competition within the season. The Storm and the Sun were atop the Commissioner's Cup standings after the first half of the season and went head-to-head for bragging rights and prize money.
Fresh off their gold medal finish in Tokyo, the Storms' three Olympians paved the way for the win. Breanna Stewart had a game-high 17 points, followed by Jewell Loyd who had 16 points while Sue Bird added 10 points and five assists. The trio showed no signs of fatigue coming off their Olympic run, instead were sharp right from the start.
Defense was also a key factor for the Storm as they held the Sun to just 32.9 percent shooting. MVP candidate Jonquel Jones had a quiet night of 10 points on 5-for-15 shooting to go along with 10 rebounds. DeWanna Bonner and Natisha Hiedeman had 11 points apiece.

Big-time baller
Breanna Stewart took home MVP honors after delivering a signature all-around performance. She tallied 17 points on 6-for-8 shooting, three triples, four rebounds, three assists, while once again being a disruptor on the defensive end with four steals and three blocks.
Stewart set the tone for the lopsided win by scoring 15 points in the first quarter alone.
