Jalen Green lit up the MGM Resorts 2021 NBA Summer League in his debut, and was on his way to another impressive showing Thursday against Toronto before a hamstring injury waylaid his performance.
The 2021 No. 2 overall pick had already racked up 13 points (4-8 FGs; 3-5 3Ps) in 12 minutes when he drove right, found open space for a long 2 and pulled up. The shot came up short, and as Green turned to help cover in transition, he couldn’t kick into gear, walking stiffly as the play developed around him.
Green exited to the locker room, but later returned to join his teammates on the bench. A report from Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports indicated this could mark Green’s final appearance in Vegas, with training camps coming up at the end of September. Tim MacMahon of ESPN subsequently added the Rockets don’t believe the injury to be a significant concern, though an MRI is forthcoming.
