Golden State tallied their largest margin of victory in a season-opening game in franchise history, on the same night Paolo Banchero became the first Magic player since Tracy McGrady to score 30 points in Orlando’s first game of the season.

Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors entered a new era with the same winning ways.

Curry was just one rebound shy of a triple-double as the Warriors issued a 139-104 road beating of the Portland Trail Blazers to kick off their 2024-25 season on a dazzling note.

Thompson left Golden State after 13 years to join the Dallas Mavericks back in the offseason.

His replacement in Buddy Hield wasted no time to make an instant impact, dropping 22 points from five triples in his Warriors debut.

Andrew Wiggins churned 20 points, while sophomore big man Trayce Jackson-Davis added 14 markers.

After an even opening frame, Golden State buried Portland with a barrage of three-pointers and outscored the Trail Blazers by a combined 38 points in the final three quarters. The Warriors finished the game hitting 20 triples.

Meanwhile, Scoot Henderson led the way for Portland with 22 points off the bench despite all of their starters scoring in double figures.

Jerami Grant poured 16 markers, Anfernee Simons and Deni Avdija each scored 15, Toumani Camara tallied 11, and Deandre Ayton had a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Portland could not get their flow offensively all-game long and shot just 39% including a measly 23% clip from long range.

Up next for Trailblazers are the New Orleans Pelicans while the Warriors next visit the Jazz in Utah.

In Orlando, Paolo Banchero exploded for a 33-point, 11-rebound double-double in a statement 116-97 Magic rout of the Miami Heat--a match-up of last season`s playoff teams.

Banchero scored 12 points alone in the third frame that saw Orlando pour 39 points en route to pulling away from the Heat.

Franz Wagner collected 23 markers while Wendell Carter put up eight points and grabbed 14 rebounds.

Kentavious Caldwell Pope struggled in his debut game as a Magic, accounting for just three points while going 0-for-5 in the field.

On the other hand, Terry Rozier took up the scoring cudgels for Miami with a team-high 19 markers while Nikola Jovic got 15 and Tyler Herro chipping 14.

It was a forgettable night for the Heat’s superstar tandem of Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, who combined for just 12 points on a 2-of-13 shooting.

Orlando faces the Brooklyn Nets next as Miami lock horns against the Charlotte Hornets.
