A busy nine-game slate saw the Cleveland Cavaliers and the OKC Thunder still on the top of their respective conferences, while the Boston Celtics and LA Lakers bounce back on the road.

UNDEFEATED THUNDER, CAVS STILL ON TOP IN EAST, WEST

  • Cleveland Cavaliers (6-0) def. Orlando Magic (3-3), 120-109: Six games up, six games done for the red-hot Cleveland Cavaliers thanks to a wire-to-wire victory against the Orlando Magic in their first duel since the seven-game East first round showdown.

  • The real deal?: Darius Garland dropped 25 points while Donovan Mitchell added 22 markers in 22 minutes, as the Cavaliers improved to 6-0 and remained the only unbeaten team in the East.

The last time the Cavs won their first six games of the season was in 2016 behind the brilliance of former superstar LeBron James.

Cleveland also became the first team to start 6-0 since the 2023 Milwaukee Bucks emerged victorious in their first nine games.

  • Donovan Mitchell on the Cavaliers’ blazing start: “We’re extremely confident, but it’s just a six-game stretch. We have to continue to be this team throughout.”

  • It’s always sunny for Oklahoma: OKC built an early 13-point lead, saw it disappear after a strong Portland second quarter, before responding with a blitzing 38-17 third canto en route to a 5-0 start.

It was just the second time in franchise history that the Thunder won their first five games of the season, the first being in 2011.

  • The Thunder tradition continues: You know the drill, OKC fans.

Another Thunder win means another post-game “bark.”

CELTICS, LAKERS BOUNCED BACK ON THE ROAD

  • Boston Celtics (5-1) def. Charlotte Hornets (2-3), 124-99: The defending champions bounced back quickly on the road at the expenses of the Hornets.

  • Mover over, Truth: Jayson Tatum paced the Celtics with a team-high 34 points and 11 rebounds, passing Paul Pierce for the most 25-point, 10-rebound in franchise history with 25.

  • Getting Chippy in Chapel Hill: Things got heated when Tatum got run over by former teammate Grant Williams, who got ejected after committing a flagrant foul 2.
  • Jaylen Brown on Williams’ hard foul on Tatum: “I thought JT and Grant were friends. I guess not.”

  • Lake Show’s finest: Anthony Davis and LeBron James combined for 65 points as the Lakers got rid of a stubborn Raptors team after back-to-back road losses in Phoenix and in Cleveland.

KNICKS, NETS, KINGS KEPT GOING AS PELICANS, TIMBERWOLVES CLAIMED BIG HOME WINS

  • New York Knicks (3-2) def. Detroit Pistons (1-5), 128-98: The Knicks now won back-to-back road games for the first time this season after pummeling the reeling Pistons.

  • Brunson runs Motor City: Jalen Brunson needed just three quarters to drop 36 points in torching the Pistons, including dropping 26 alone in the first half. He did not play in the fourth quarter.

Four other Knicks starters in Karl-Anthony Towns, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby, and Josh Hart also scored in double-digits for the fourth straight game, the first time it happened since 1989.

He also joins Patrick Ewing as the only players in franchise history to post 100+ points and 50+ rebounds in their first five games with the team.

  • Pistons superstar Cade Cunningham on Jalen Brunson’s big night: "He just knows the ins & outs of the game. It takes a group to guard him."

  • Mr. 4th Quarter Guy: Cam Thomas fired 10 of his 32 points, including eight straight points in under two minutes, to spearhead Brooklyn’s win.

  • Elite duo in Sac-Town: De’Aaron Fox went off for a season-high 31 points, while DeMar DeRozan had 27 points as the superstar tandem proved to be too much to handle for the Hawks, who now lost four straight.

DeRozan also became the seventh player in Kings history to record 20 or more points in the first five games of the season.

  • Feels good for the Pels: Zion Williamson uncorked a season-high 34-points, including 16 in the final frame, while posting 10 assists in a dominating display of pure power and playmaking.

It was also Williamson's first 30-point, 10 assist game in his career.

  • Clutch Ant: Edwards finished with 29 points, including the go-ahead basket with 25.7 seconds left, and seven threes as Minnesota rode a mean 17-4 closing run to survive the Nuggets.

Through five games, Ant scored 149 points, the most ever in franchise history by a player in that span to open the season.
