On the other hand, Jaren Jackson Jr. paced the Grizzlies with 29 points as their three-game winning streak got snapped.
Marcus Smart, Santi Aldama, and Scotty Pippen Jr. all poured 15 points each but Memphis got outscored ,37-27, in the final frame.
It was their first defeat in three games since superstar guard Ja Morant went down with a hip injury.
Besides Morant, Memphis are also without Desmond Bane (oblique), GG Jackson (foot), Vince Williams (lower leg), and Cam Spencer (ankle).
The Lakers will open their NBA Cup title defense against the San Antonio Spurs, while the Grizzlies face the red-hot Golden State Warriors in their own In-Season Tournament debut.
