Trailing 11 points to start the final frame, the Timberwolves cut the lead to two points, 109-107, after Rudy Gobert hit two from the foul line with 3:04 left.
In the ensuing possession, Irving hit a critical triple on top of the arc to extend the Mavericks at 112-107.

Earlier, Minnesota scored 10 unanswered points to start the second half, 69-61, with Anthony Edwards, Julius Randle, and Mike Conley joining forces in the offensive end.
But Dallas went on a rampage the last 9:33 seconds of the third quarter, outscoring the Timberwolves, 32-13, to build a 93-82 lead entering the final frame.

PJ Washington and Daniel Gafford combined for 31 points as the Mavericks improved to 3-1 this season.
Meanwhile, Edwards put on a show early in the opening frame, firing 24 points spiked on six triples as the Timberwolves raced to a fast start, 34-26. He finished with a game-high 37 points and a new career-high seven triples made.
