Shai Gilgeous-Alexander drops 39 as Thunder eliminate Mavericks to reach NBA Cup semis

In a rematch of last playoff's Western Conference semifinals, the West-leading OKC Thunder clamped down on Dallas and ended the Mavericks’ seven-game winning run.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the West no. 1 Oklahoma City Thunder got their revenge against the team that sent them packing in last season’s playoffs. 

SGA dropped 16 of his 39 points the third frame of a 118-104 Thunder dismissal of the Dallas Mavericks, joining the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA Cup semifinals, Wednesday, December 11.  

He raced to a fiery start and also scored 16 first quarter points and finished with eight rebounds, five rebounds, and five threes with OKC now waiting the winner of the Golden State-Houston Rockets duel.

Jalen Williams added 18 points while Isaiah Hartenstein secured a 10-point, 13-rebound double-double for Oklahoma City, who hit 19 threes overall and improved to 10-2 at home. 

OKC’s top-ranked defense was in full display after collecting 14 steals and registered 36 points off 19 Dallas turnovers.   

Coming off two straight triple-doubles, Mavs superstar Luka Doncic had 16 markers, 11 rebounds, and five dimes in a losing effort. 

Naji Marshall and Klay Thompson each scored 19 points, Kyrie Irving added 17 more as the Mavericks saw their seven-game winning streak snapped and drop to 16-9 overall.
