Bill Chisholm has plenty of reasons to celebrate — well, 6.1 billion reasons to be exact, according to reports.
This is after longtime Celtics owner and team governor Wyc Grousbeck agreed to sell the franchise to Chisholm and his group for a record-setting $6.1 billion, per NBA senior insider Shams Charania.
BREAKING: Bill Chisholm, managing partner at Symphony Technology Group, has agreed to purchase the Boston Celtics from the Grousbeck family for a valuation for $6.1 billion, sources tell ESPN. This now is the largest sale for a sports franchise in North America.

It marked the first time that Chisholm, the co-founder of Symphony Technology Group (STG), will take over a major North American sports franchise in a larger capacity.
Joining him as the new owners are current Celtics minority owner Rob Hale, Related Companies president Bruce A. Beal Jr., and Sixth Street, a global investment firm.
Per reports, the sale surpassed the $6.05 billion purchase of Josh Harris’ group to acquire the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL) from Dan Snyder two years ago.
The Grousbecks first bought the Celtics in 2002 and since then led the squad to four NBA Finals berths and two championships in that time.
In a statement, Chisholm, who described himself as a “die-hard Celtics fan,” expressed his group’s readiness to help continue the storied franchise’ legacy moving forward.
“I understand how important the Celtics are to the city of Boston – the role the team plays in the community is different than any other city in the country. I also understand that there is a responsibility as a leader of the organization to the people of Boston, and I am up for this challenge,” Chisholm said.
“We look forward to learning from Wyc and partnering with Brad Stevens, Joe Mazzulla and the talented team and staff to build upon their success as we work to bring more championships home to Boston,” he added.
