Dallas Mavericks center Boban Marjanovic helped Serbia hold off Gilas Pilipinas, 83-76, in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Belgrade, Serbia on Thursday (PHT).
Marjanovic helped the Serbians seal the win by scoring eight of his team's last 10 points after Gilas, which was down 16 points early, momentarily took a one-point lead late in the fourth period.
The Mavericks' 7-foot-4 center finished with a double-double of 25 points, going 12-of-18 from the field, and 10 boards. Meanwhile, Milos Teodosic, who had a brief stint with the LA Clippers, a few years back, had 13 points and six dimes in the win.
Gilas Pilipinas was paced by naturalized Filipino Angelo Kouame, who scored 17 points and seven rebounds. NBA prospect Kai Sotto had 10 markers and five boards.
With Marjanovic leading the way, the Serbians dominated in the shaded area (46-28) and in second-chance points (11-4).
Serbia now holds a 2-0 record in the tournament and will advance to the semifinals. Gilas (0-1), on the other hand, needs to take care of business against Dominican Republic on Friday to make the next round.
