LeBron James speaks to the media during the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend.

Call it the silver linings playbook.

LeBron James shared an inspiring message for young Philippine hoopers to keep their dreams alive despite adversities.

The Los Angeles Lakers star, voted captain of the 2024 NBA All-Star West team, spoke to the media before the All-Star Game and was asked about the value of hope.

James himself had a rough childhood, as he and his young mother Gloria Marie James had to move from apartment to apartment as she struggled to make ends meet.

"What I find a silver lining is also looking at just my upbringing and looking at the kids that's in situations that I was younger. You know, trying to be an inspiration to them, letting the understand that there is a way out," he said to NBA Philippines.

"And I was one of the kids that made it out."

James is now a four-time NBA champion, a four-time NBA Finals MVP, a four-time regular season MVP, and a 20-time NBA All-Star.

"So it's my responsibility and my duty to let them know that no matter what you're going through, there is a path out. If you just commit to your dream, and you can make that dream a reality, I think that's what it's all about," he added.

The King has not forgotten the Philippines. He's been there thrice since 2013.

"Sometimes all the kid has is hope, and that's okay," James said. "As long as you don't give that up--don't ever give that up--it's always brighter on the other side for sure."
