The Los Angeles Lakers and superstar guard Luka Doncic are officially tied together for the long haul.

Doncic, a five-time All-NBA First Team selection and one of the league’s most electrifying talents, has signed a long-term contract extension to stay with the Lakers. The deal is reportedly a maximum of three-years and $165 million, per NBA insider Shams Charania.

Since arriving in Los Angeles via trade earlier this year, the 26-year-old Slovenian phenom has quickly cemented his place as a cornerstone of the franchise — and now, he’s staying for years to come.

“Today is a monumental moment for our franchise,” said Lakers President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Rob Pelinka.

“Luka Doncic’s future is with the Los Angeles Lakers. From the moment he put on a Lakers jersey, you could feel the connection with the fans. Luka is a killer on the court, a global icon, and a player whose leadership will drive our pursuit of championships.”

In addition to his commitment on the hardwood, Doncic is expanding his off-court impact. Through the Luka Doncic Foundation, he’s pledging $5 million to launch a new global initiative supporting 77 young athletes, ages 12 to 15.

The program will help remove financial barriers for rising talents, staying true to Doncic’s mission to give back to the communities that have supported him.

“I’m really grateful to the Lakers organization, my teammates, and the fans for welcoming me and my family with so much support and kindness since day one,” Doncic said.

“This is just the beginning. I’m going to keep working as hard as I can to bring another championship to Los Angeles and to make Laker Nation proud.”

Since joining the Lakers in February, Doncic started all 28 regular-season games, averaging 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.5 assists, and 1.6 steals in 35.1 minutes.

He carried that momentum into the playoffs, delivering a stellar first-round performance against Minnesota that included 30.2 points per game.

Across seven NBA seasons, Doncic holds career averages of 28.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 8.2 assists — the third-highest scoring average in league history.

His accolades include five All-Star selections, a scoring title in 2024 (33.9 PPG), and a jaw-dropping 73-point game that same season, tying for the fourth-most ever in a single game.

Doncic’s postseason resume is equally remarkable. In 55 playoff starts, he has averaged 30.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 7.8 assists, ranking second all-time in playoff scoring average and tied for sixth with 10 triple-doubles.

Internationally, Doncic has long been the pride of Slovenia. He led the national team to a historic EuroBasket gold medal in 2017, and a fourth-place finish at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, highlighted by a 48-point explosion against Argentina — the second-highest scoring output in Olympic history.

Before his NBA journey, Doncic starred for Real Madrid, making his senior debut at just 16 and leading the team to a EuroLeague title and MVP honors in 2018.

As he begins his next chapter with the Lakers, Doncic remains focused on two things: winning and giving back.

“This is an amazing organization, and I truly believe in what we’re building together,” Doncic said. “I’m excited for what’s ahead and to keep building something special with this team.”
