The Los Angeles guard is dealing with a thumb injury that will keep him sidelined for 3-4 weeks.

One day before the Los Angeles Lakers open their 2022-23 campaign, coach Darvin Ham says guard Dennis Schroder is having a procedure to repair a ligament in his thumb and is expected to be sidelined for three to four weeks.

Schroder played in just one of the Lakers’ five preseason matchups.

The nine-year NBA veteran signed with Los Angeles during free agency in September for his second stint with the team. Schroder previously played with the Lakers during the 2020-21 season when he averaged 5.4 points and 5.8 assists.

Meanwhile, Lakers guard Russell Westbrook, who exited the Lakers’ final preseason game on Friday with a hamstring injury, remains day-to-day, according to coach Ham.

The Lakers open the 2022-23 season against the defending champion Warriors Tuesday night (10 ET, TNT).
